Did you know that Grafton has a famous double decker bridge.
Before the bridge was built, the Clarence river caused a break in the Sydney Brisbane Rail link, making Grafton and South Grafton separate railway hubs. As a consequence, Grafton became and important railway town, with South Grafton established as a significant railway depot for the North Coat of NSW.
When the bridge was built, it enabled through traffic from Sydney to Brisbane, and sped up the journey.
The top deck of the bridge is for cars and the lower deck for rail. The rail deck features walk ways for pedestrians and cyclists on both sides, so you can stroll across the might Clarence during your visit.
It is a very important piece of NSW history that has made Grafton famous.
